Booty Call Collection review: A post heart-break fashion story

First of…

Back in December 2015, while nursing heart-break wounds, Joburg-based fashion designer and rapper, Nokana Grad Mojapelo, created  a dazzling  spring/summer capsule collection. He then went on to name it “Booty Call” Collection.

But it is certainly not the peculiar name that caught my attention. First of all is the colour choices, second is the quality of fabrics used, and finally, the international urban appeal the collection possesses.

The colour Choices…

I think of the Booty Call collection colour choices, as a splurge of bright, pastel colours. That element alone gives the collection a passive, yet sophisticated and self- indulgent feel.

Pastel yellows, pastel oranges, a dash of solid green, shades of blue among other colours, help radiate an  aura of a confident, laid-back, urban stud. The colours featured in this collection make for a perfect colour play in the upcoming South African summer and spring seasons.

Choice of Fabrics

What sets this collection apart is the careful selection of fabrics; The Booty Call collection makes extensive use of cottons. Let’s take for instance the green twill, cotton made “I told My Therapist about you” two-piece combination comprising a single-breasted coat and chino trousers, this combination helps to keep one warm in the early spring days without losing the urban easy-going feel. There’s also chino used in the range of high-waisted shorts.

Other notable fabrics used in this collection are:

  • Drimac as seen on the jackets
  • burdet
  • brocade
  • calico

The Urban appeal…

Lastly, with the lively, sometimes quirky combinations and interesting art direction, the Booty Call collection can help get one noticed from the streets of Joburg, to the streets of Nairobi, Tokyo and Stockholm.

The international urban appeal of the Booty Call collection is sharply notable when compared to similar international collections created by reputable international urban brands like Lazyoaf, Daily paper and golf wang.
